Apii Nikao is one of the largest primary school’s on Rarotonga with approximately 400 students, catering for ECE through to Year 8 (3-13-year-old students.) We are a Government School opened in 2016, following the merging of Apii Nikao Maori and Apii Avatea. We are located in Oire Nikao, not far from the Rarotongan International Airport. Our school is a purpose built ‘Flexible Learning Environment’, with the current buildings opened in 2018. Apii Nikao follows the Cook Island Curriculum and our medium of instruction is English, although a high level of priority is accorded to te reo Kuki Airani. All our students have daily clsses in Te Reo Maori. At Apii Nikao, we enjoy welcoming visitors to experience both our school and local Cook Island Culture and to connect with our students and staff. Our students benefit from these visits by practicing their Kia Orana Values and we value the opportunity to meet people from all around the world and learn about their lives and home countries. Our students and staff welcome the opportunity to share and learn about different educational and cultural experiences.
All proceeds from this experience is used by the school to provide educational experiences outside the classroom for our students.
